Benicia Theatre Group Announces Auditions for The Fantasticks – Actor-Singers and Music Team Wanted

Benicia, CA — Benicia Theatre Group is excited to announce auditions for its Fall 2025 production of The Fantasticks, running October 17 through November 9.

This beloved musical tells the whimsical story of two neighboring fathers who scheme to spark a romance between their children—only to discover that love, like life, can’t be orchestrated. With poetic charm, minimalist staging, and timeless songs like “Try to Remember,” The Fantasticks remains the world’s longest-running musical for good reason. We’re thrilled to welcome back Benicia native Adria Swan as director. Adria previously graced our stage as a performer and recently directed last season’s The Odd Couple. Her return marks another full-circle moment in Benicia Theatre Group’s 60+ year legacy.

Now Casting & Hiring

  • Actor & Singers (all genders and backgrounds encouraged)
  • Music Director
  • Vocal Director
  • Audition Pianist: We will need a strong piano accompanist for auditions. Ideally, this will be our Music Director, but we are open to hiring a dedicated pianist if needed.

Auditions

  • Sunday, August 3 (4 – 8:00 pm) & Monday, August 4 (6 – 10:00 pm)
  • Book your audition by clicking here.
  • Location: BDES Hall, 140 West J Street, Benicia, California
  • Callbacks: Sunday, August 10

Initial auditions will be short individual slots, and we ask that all actors prepare and sing material from the show. Please prepare a one-minute cut from the following songs based on the role you’re auditioning for:

  • El Gallo: “Try to Remember”
  • • Luisa Bellamy: “Much More” (from “To do the things…” to end of song)
  • Matt Hucklebee: “I Can See It”
  • Bellamy / Hucklebee: “Never Say No”
  • Henry / Mortimer: “Try to Remember” (El Gallo’s section, to hear vocal quality)
  • The Mute: Does not need to sing, but should prepare a monologue. A movement call will be part of callbacks. We are looking for a strong physical actor for this role.
